About John Ferm

John's interest in coins began in 1960 at the age of 12.  He bought his very first coin, a 1931 S nickel at a coin show in Minneapolis in 1961 at the Curtis Hotel.  Later at age 15 he came across a Liberty nickel, which he found in circulation. After that, he was hooked!

John grew up in Excelsior, Minnesota. In addition to collecting coins, he also collected stamps and baseball cards.  In 1966 he set up for his first show, which was in White Bear Lake, Minnesota; where he bought and sold coins at a coin show. In 1980 he opened the doors to his coin shop.

 When asked what the most exciting coin was that he ever had, he said,  "A  US 1916 Liberty standing quarter, MS64, which I sold for $24,000 in 2009."  And when he was asked what was his most elusive coin John replied, "a 1793 Chain cent."

John continues to advertise in the following journals; World Coin News since 1975, Numismatic News since 1975 and periodically in Coin World since 1968. He is a life member of the ANA  (#2001) since 1976, and is a proud  Rotarian member since 1988.  John is also a lively invited speaker at coin shows.

John also has several Lifetime memberships to numerous State and National organizations. John Ferm Rare Coins, continues to participate in the following coin shows;
